On the occasion of the XIII Edition of the Games of the Small States of Europe, on Monday, 1st June 2009, the MaltaPost Philatelic Bureau will be issuing a set of five postage stamps. The set, designed by Daniel Mangani, feature five of the various disciplines in which the Maltese team excels in such Games. These are Sailing (ˆ0.10), Judo (ˆ0.19), Shooting (ˆ0.37), Swimming (ˆ0.67) and Athletics (ˆ1.77). All stamps include a coloured strip which represents the continents colours as represented in the official Olympic logo. The Cyprus 2009 logo is also included in the design.

It consits of two beautiful stamps depiting Galileo and telescope.The Euro 0.37 stamp features a portrait of Galileo Galilei (1564 – 1642) by Francesco Boschi and one of Galileo’s sketches of the moon set against a starry background including the constellation Orion. The stamp also commemorates the 40 year anniversary of the first manned lunar landing by featuring the Apollo 11 lunar module “Eagle”. The Euro 1.19 stamp shows the great telescope of William Lassell, set up in Malta between 1861 and 1865, against a background of stars showing Nebula M42, which Lassell himself observed on various occasions from Malta.

Beijing Olympics - Malta

A three-stamp set commemorating the Beijing Olympics is being issued by the
Philatelic Bureau of MaltaPost p.l.c. on Friday, 7th March. The stamps are designed by Darren Duncan.

Sixteen days of intense competition will follow the grand opening of the Beijing
2008 Olympic Games on 8th August, as 10,700 elite athletes from around the
world compete for the 302 gold medals on offer in 28 different sports. The
events will be held in a total of 37 venues, of which 31 are competition venues in
Beijing.
