From the 27th to the 29th May 2009, San Marino will host the 38th ICPO-INTERPOL European Regional Conference, which will see the participation of representatives from central national offices and European police forces as well as observers from other International Organizations who cooperate with Interpol. Interpol is the world's largest international criminal police organization, with 187 member countries. Its aims are to prevent and combat international crime, guaranteeing widespread, reciprocal assistance and cooperation between all the police authorities of the member countries, respecting national legislations and in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The main intervention sectors regard organised crime, the capture of fugitives, terrorism, crimes against children, high-tech crime, corruption, human trafficking, environmental crime, crimes against humanity, illegal drugs and weapons trafficking, financial crimes and support for member countries during important international events, natural calamities and large terrorist attacks. The stamp issued for the occasion depicts the Interpol logo on the background of the San Marino flag; above, on the right, the stylized reference to the three towers of San Marino.
